Missing or irregular periods? Your body doesn't feel “safe”

Let me tell you something 99% of Western medicine Doctors won’t (trust me, I’ve seen hundreds)....

If your periods are missing or irregular, then your body doesn't feel safe.

Here’s why:

Your reproductive health is intricately linked to your nervous system.

When your body perceives stress or danger, it activates the sympathetic nervous system (the "fight, flight, freeze" response), and our modern lives are STRESSFUL.

Women especially are expected to do it all and be it all for everyone, all the time. So chronic stress, trauma, and everyday pressures can keep the sympathetic nervous system in overdrive, disrupting your delicate balance of reproductive hormones.

When your sympathetic nervous system dominates, it signals to your hypothalamus that it’s not an optimal time for reproduction so your body allocates its resources to SURVIVAL, not fertility.

Which makes sense if you think about evolution - why risk a pregnancy when there’s a famine or a war going on?

So as a result, your menstrual cycle can become irregular, or periods may be missed altogether.

And the thing is, while our bodies are incredible…

They can’t tell the difference between war and a stressful work project. Hearing the sound of a lion roar or the voice of your ex boyfriend in the supermarket.

Stress is stress, according to the body.

This is why somatic exercises, which regulate the nervous system out of ‘fight, fight, freeze’ and back into ‘rest and digest’ are an ESSENTIAL part of the healing process.

As well as helping you cope with current pressures, they also release any stored or unprocessed tension, trauma and emotions stuck in your body that are further signaling to your nervous system that you’re under stress.

By engaging in targeted somatic exercises, you signal to your body that IT IS safe. Moving your body our of survival mode so your hormones can find their way back to balance.

Remember, your body speaks through the language of movement and quickly responds to the signals you provide through somatic practices.

And while diet and lifestyle changes are essential ingredients to healing too, of course...

By prioritising nervous system regulation and trauma healing through somatic exercises, you’ll LEAP toward reclaiming the balance you’re looking for.

You have everything you need inside of you to heal, so let’s get you there.
